"the property had not been cleaned in several dead fly's and roaches in every room of the house. Coffee maker did not work, dishwasher leaked onto kitchen floor when in use, house smelled like mold and was musty, driveway and entrance to property was dangerous and in need of repair. No washer or dryer no extra bedding or bath towels no chairs

"Trout Run was very clean and cozy. My grandchildren loved getting in the creek and my son caught a 17 inch trout from the creek. The porch was awesome. We sat on the porch every morning and every evening and you could see and hear the creek. My dogs loved the well maintained yard. Perfect place for dogs. We wished we was able to open the shed under the porch to use the corn hole boards but it was locked. We will definitely rent this place again.

"My family and I were looking for a place to get away from everyday hustle and bustle. Thus was a great place for that! We never missed social media/ electronics even my 14 year old was good without it! We had a lot of fun fishing for trout and caught enough to cook for supper one night. The fire pit by the water was a nice way to end the day. We would definitely stay here again.

"The property is in desperate need of some tender loving care. There wasn't any water pressure making it impossible to wash my hair or make a pot of coffee while someone is in the shower. The oven had bugs in it and smelled awful when it was turned on. The toaster on the counter has rusted making it unusable. The microwave was dirty. The furniture was old, dirty and uncomfortable. It's really a shame. I think this could be a very nice property if someone would take care of it. I loved the creek out front and the location was fine. The driveway is very narrow entering the property.

"The house is very nice. I was, unfortunately, sick with a cold and wasn’t able to truly enjoy as much as I had hoped. The creek and 5he sound of the running water was very welcoming. The house was clean. The view was wonderful. Very pleasant and private. I would stay again.

Fall Motorcycle Trip

"The cabin was clean and refreshing when we arrived. This is probably my fifth or sixth time staying at this cabin so something must be special about this place and it's the location!!! Awesome stream out in front of the house so you can see it while you relax on the porch or you can go stream side and enjoy the swing and the firepit whichever suits your fancy. There's no cell phone service and no WIFI at the house so if you need that then you're in trouble. We had to drive about a mile down the road to get service but I enjoy spending time away from the electronic world sometimes to refresh but overall you'll be very pleased I think staying at Trout Run!!

"This property is older and needs to be updated and be detailed our daughter got sick from smell or something in house she has Asthma we had to leave the property early but once i contacted yellow rose they refunded our money also offered us another place to stay but we were already headed home to her dr they were great and i loved they took care of us will continue to rent from them but new property only

"If you are looking to destess, this is the place. We stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave. The creek was absolutely the best and at the end of the road, and a short hike, you will find Alarka Falls. Had a few activities planned, but ended up cancelling because the property was nice to hang out. But we did rent a pontoon boat on the Santeetlah Lake and had an awesome day. The house
and the property has character and I loved it!! My pupster also loved it as well, she was able to get her feet wet and cool off.

"The house was pleasant. It had a musky smell, but we tolerated it. Whomever cleans the house could do a better job. We left it cleaner than when we got there. The outside creek was fantastic. We enjoyed sitting outside by the fire and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Alarka Road is out of the way and a little distance from town, but we enjoyed the peace and tranquility when we returned back from our daily excursions. We never saw any trout in the stream and that was disappointing but we found a trout pond and fished that. Oh yeah, the concrete bridge you have to cross to get to the house is a little scary. I got out and walked across it every time. My friends had to drive the car over. LOL
Would stay again.

"The grounds and the cabin were very well groomed and clean. The stream beside the cabin was awesome. The porch that overlooks the property was a great place to sit and read and take in the mountain surroundings. this is an awesome place to stay. I look forward to my fall vacation already!!

"The location was great but the house had a horrible mildew smell had to keep the door open during the day because of the smell.we had no wifi and the house phone didn't work. My son had an emergency come up and I didn't get the call until the next day

The Good and Bad

"Very remote location. Six miles up a winding mountain road. No way to communicate at all. Four ladies had 3 different cell carriers and there was no service from any of them. No internet. No service on home phone. We were concerned because in case of an emergency there was no way to summon help. Alarm didn’t work. It said low battery. The door lock was hard to lock and unlock. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. The floors were clean, except under and behind furniture. The ceiling fans very very dusty. The living room furniture needs replacing. Couch and 2 recliners dirty. Large recliner handle broken and wouldn’t recline, but didn’t want to sit in it anyway. When sitting in it, something was biting back of legs. It felt like a mosquito bite or some kind if mite. The beds had clean linens and were adequately comfortable. Good supply of towels and washcloths. Very pretty view from front porch. Rushing brook at end of front yard roadside. Bridge across creek turning in off road has no guard rails. You have to be very careful turning in. Driveway in front of bridge needs filling in. Every time when leaving property the bottom of my van scraped because too much of a drop off from concrete. Even though the setting is very pretty, I would not rent again because of lack of communication, driveway situation, and living room furniture being dirty.

Not what I expected...

"Upon arrival, we noticed the floors had not been swept. This initially was a big turn off and had me question the cleanliness of the unit all together. It wasn’t a little bit of dirt, it was a big pile of dirt that I swept the day we arrived. Later, I was looking for a bottle of cleaning spray so I could wipe down the counters and table before and after dinner and there was none in the whole place. The master bed has a big dip in the middle, probably from either being worn out or cheap or both. The outside of the fridge/freezer was filthy. Brown and black filth and no cleaner to get it off. The alarm system beeped the ENTIRE LAST NIGHT and we couldn’t get it to stop.
The location was perfect. The water out front was nice and we enjoyed the fire pit.
But we will not be back.

Beautiful Property

"The yard here is beautiful, I loved the swing and fire pit by the stream. The house is dated and needs some updating. Master bed was comfortable, but the sofa needs to be replaced and the larger recliner is broken. But we spent most of our time in the yard or on the porch. The sound of the stream is so relaxing.

"This is a very cute house with a nice view, but the issues that have been brought to the attention of the rental company have not been addressed not corrected. The home has a very heavy smell of mold, so heavy that we had to open the windows to be able to breathe well. The couch is broken and sinks to the middle, and so does the king size bed. I am a very small person, 4'11" and 100 lbs, so if these things sink when I sit on them you can only imagine how bad it is. I was very disappointed that, before we went, I sent an email and ask the realtor had the issues been corrected. Their response was, yes, the issues have been addressed. The toilet in the half bath also still rocks back and forth, so be very careful if you use that bathroom. We opted not to use it after the first day. Also, I ran a diffuser with citronella and lemongrass on the front porch, to keep the gnats and flies at bay, which get really bad in the evenings. but the diffuser helped it enough so that we were able to sit on the front porch at night and enjoy the cooler air. You could tell that the housekeeper did a great job cleaning the home, everything was spotless. And when I called the day of our arrival, the lady I spoke with in the office was very nice and accommodating, and allowed us to actually get into the property about an hour early. And because it is not clearly outlined anywhere in the description, be aware that there is absolutely no cellular or Wi-Fi signals once you leave the highway and turn onto the road where the home is located. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the house from the highway

"My husband and I have stayed at several places from vrbo but this was by far the worst place. No wifi but that's on me for not checking good enough before booking. The only thing that place had going for it was the stream and fire pit. When we walked in the musky smell hit you in the face. Spider webs on stuff and bugs on the wall. Thru out the whole house the floors were weak when u walked on them. The king size bed was broke down. When my husband and I got in we rolled to the middle.

"It felt cold, damp and smelled McKay when we arrived. The towels felt damp and weren’t fresh smelling. The 1/2 bath toilet will throw you in the floor . It is loose from the floor. Back porch hadn’t been swept in ages..rotting leaves. Tables on front porch were filthy. I discover this when I was wiping with Lysol wipe ( COVID ) The oven was absolutely filthy. the area by the stream is marvelous! Won’t be staying here again.

"Enjoyed the cabin and the rustic amenities and property. It was just as advertised. The trout steam, fire ring, and large yard were perfect for both kids and adults! The cabin was older but had the cabin charm and decorations that made it very comfortable. We had a great time. Our only disappointment was the high fees charged by Yellow Rose Real Estate on top of the reasonable VRBO fee for a one night stay. Lesson learned !!!!

"The cabin is in a beautiful area, beautiful yard and creek, appreciate the comfortable clean beds and bathrooms/ tub, kitchen -very clean. Just a few things need repair- one toilet is surprisingly wobbly, a nail in kitchen floor can catch your feet, sleeper couch bed is broken( fell through), dryer left black markings on some of my clothes, the phone cord won’t stay in. The guest book tells me that some of these things have been like this for years. Still worth the stay and will be back.

"We have never been to the mountains of North Carolina. We normally go to Helan Georgia. But we wanted something closer. We were in the perfect location! We went and rode horses in the Smokey Mountains. We did a day trop to Gatlinburg TN. another day trip to Helan Georgia and went tubing. Our son caught his first Rainbow Trout and my husband caught his first Rainbow Trout, in the front yard. I could go on and on! We will definitely be going back!

"We enjoyed the location on the creek, especially with the covered porch so we could enjoy it even in the rain. The half bath needs repairs, the toilet is wobbly. The tapestry above the master/king bed was covered in dust and needed to be cleaned. Could use new pots/pants. The Teflon on the non stick pans we're all coming off. The rental company was responsive when we had an issue turning on the oven & had a guy come out to check on us and clean up some broke glass outside, which we appreciated. Overall, the house I would give a 2/5 but the location and beauty I would rate 5/5.

Great location in a rustic setting

"The cabin, loose reference, was as expected for the price. We made the trip with 2 children and 4 adults. Upon arrival the cabin was easily accessible set on a beautiful piece of land right on a trout stream. Upon entering the unit it seemed clean enough until I did a perimeter check to get a layout with two pack and plays for the kiddos. The areas behind the dressers and head boards were littered with an obscene amount of dust. It was easily remedied but the cleaning crew could do a better job with such a small unit. All the reviews were accurate as far as WiFi and cell phone use (not accessible). We were able to work around it and communicate through the land line and use the internet when in town. We enjoyed our stay and the changing of the seasons in the mountains exceeded expectations.

A Week on Trout Run

"The house was very comfortable and the view was breathtaking. The downside: the bridge over the creek s a little scary. There should be some sort of guard rails. Broken lamp in queen bedroom; light in closet in queen room didn't work. There were broken lamps in the living area. The washing machine didn't work properly. The toilet in the master bath was wobbly and leaked. The outside lights were non-existent. The flooring in front of the TV was coming up. When these items are addressed, the property would be perfect.
