Local Weather
Mountainous Western North Carolina enjoys reasonably moderate weather year-round. That makes our Swain County area an ideal region for outdoor recreation and active vacations, any time of year.
Spring comes early here with a burst of blooming mountain laurel, dogwoods, and more.
Summers are long and lazy, with cool mountain streams and lush green foliage everywhere. Rafting is one of the most popular activities in this region, thanks to an abundance of gentle to thrilling whitewater rivers in our backyard.
Fall brings cooler nights and still warm days, with great biking, hiking, fishing, and paddling on area lakes.
Winters are generally mild enough to continue some level of outdoor recreation. Our favorite is hiking in the woods after the leaves have dropped, opening up stellar views for miles. While we get snow inconsistently and when it does snow it doesn’t tend to stay long, there is a family-friendly ski area only 40 minutes away that makes great snow all winter long. |
